He is black, so his hair is think and curly. I have never cut black hair before, and I know he will only give me one chance, so I have to do a perfect job. I need to know how to do a simple babershop style cut, so I know what i'm doing!!!

I would go to the local barbar shop pick their brains, watch them for awhile and and if you are a licensed stylist try doing some cuts in the shop. Good luck.

It takes alot more than just watching a video or reading a book to do a fade or any other haircut. I am a licensed hairstylist and I had to go to school to learn what I do, full-time it took a yr.
A haircut is only $10-$20 plus a few bucks for a tip.

Your best bet would be to go to a barbershop that does black hair regularly. You can mess up cutting black hair if you don't know what your doing. I do all white male clientel in my shop, but did majority of black clientel in barber school. It's not something you pick up the first try. With anyone with straight/wavy hair, you can disguise a bad cut by combing/styling it different. With black hair or even caucasion hair if very short, you're pretty much SOL or have to shave it if you make a mistake.
