just tell the hairdresser what you said here. also, find a picture of the hairstyle that you would like and the hairdresser should be able to hook you up. but be careful, sometimes they cant replicate a hair sytle and you will leave with a bad hair cut! thats like a girls worse nightmare, even thow hair grows back you still gotta stick it out for the time being!

if you can't find any pics to show her, google images'scene girls hair' there are lots of pics to print off. I cut my daughters, explain to the hairdresser its a bit like a mullet on the top,with long feathered sides and long layers .

have at least one picture, a few would be helpful if you could get it from a couple angles. Also, be very specific, if there is some part that you really like make sure you tell them so that they dont just do something you think they will like. If you dont like it after its done, get a hold of the manager or owner and they will probably fix it just the way you want it for free.

aside from taking a picture with... ask for high disconnected layers at the crown...

thats the most common similarity with "scene" hair...

short disconnected layers are easy to tease... and look awesome because the lengths blend well.

also, since your hair is quite think, ask them to texturize with a razor (AFTER the actual haircut, and when your hair is blown dry AND flatironed.... its a lot easier for most stylists who don't regularly use a razor to see exactly WHAT they're doing with a razor after the hair is dry)

the best advice anyone can give would be to get a pic off the net and take it to your stylist. sit with her for a consultation and interview her! ask how many times that she has done this cut. how she would cut it. i will tell you that a razor and point cutting would be involved so don't let her know that you know this and see if she tells you on her own. if you are not comfy with the stylist ask for another one. or talk to the manager and get the best stylist in the shop for that cut,,,,not just the best stylist. most people think a master stylist is the best in the shop, this is not true. a master stylist just has more requests, they don't have to be the best at hair shaping, they may just have a great personality and thats what keeps their clients coming back. so make sure you interview until you are comfy, or your hair will end up lookin like ****.
