My son is 12 years old and has been growing an afro. I always told him that if he took care of his hair he could keep it anyway he wanted. He has been keeping very good care of his hair and it looks nice. But I dont like it. How can I tell him to cut his hair?

we have to pick and choose our battles with our kids and sometimes we have to let them be their individual selves. it's tough and i know that if i didn't like my kid's hair it would be hard to let him do his own thing...but in all honesty, i'd rather let him be himself and feel like an individual and feel that i'm behind him 100% than feel like i'm trying to control his life.

so, pick and choose. if it's really that important to you, then just ask him. tell him that you understand he likes it, but you really don't like it and you would love to see his hair short again.

just remember that you are going back on your original agreement, which isn't the best example to set....

Hey, I have 3 sons,14,17 and 19. Over the years I have looked at some pretty funky hair doos between the three. My youngest just cut his hair down to a bur after growing it for about three years. It was longer than my hair. His hair was cool,I loved it and now I miss it !!!!! Who cares what they do with their hair !!! Is he a good kid ? Does he do good in school ? Stay out of trouble,for the most part !!!!! Let him grow his hair how he wants. Its his hair. He is just expressing himself in a way that is totally harmless to him and everyone else.
