My hair is shoulder length and layered and I really want it to grow but evertime I go in for a trim, the hairstylists end up cutting an inch or more or just plain butchering me. I have gone to different salons because I haven't yet found a stylist who could cut my hair right because it always ends up looking choppy and not right. Should I just let my hair grow and wait to cut it when its at the length I want?

That depends on if your hair is damaged. If it seems to be in good condition-you don't use any heat to style it, its shiny, easy to comb through-I would just say to let it grow and worry about cutting it later. Make sure you deep condition at least once a week and use a leave in conditioner all the time to keep it really healthy. You could also take prenatal vitamins to help it grow faster.

But I must just advise you.. if you want to grow your hair, there is one thing you need to remember: be patient and leave your hair alone for a bit.

If you have hair the way you say it, it will take time. Hair grow only +/- 1cm a month, so if you have short hair on top, it will take +/- a year to get to your neck at the back.

So, the most NB right now, is to let your hair grow. If you don閳ユ獩 trust a hairdresser, ask your Mum or a friend only cut the back!! and one length! Around your neck. Also, trim your fringe so it looks nice and neat. Later when your back grows back, you can grow your fringe.

So every time it will look neat from the back.

Then what you need to do, once again I say, be patient, you will go via times that you will hate hair being ;funny' around your face.. put them then behind your ears.

If you want to look nice and cute, use gel or moose, or use clips.. I know some people who buy clips with hair and just attach it at the back (to a pony) so in the evening it looks like you have long hair.

What also people do when they grow hair, if somehow they find that it looks boring and they need a lift they do some highlights, or just at the end (looking like feathers).

You have to tell them your plan.. for one.. u have to do away with the layers and be VERY forceful in your approach. Hairstylists are "creative" people and sometimes cant help themself. Tell them LOOK i want it THIS way... that should work :)

you can do that or keep cuting your hair every 2 or 3 months so the ends dont get choppy and the hair will grow long faster trust me i did the same thing i just ssaid!

Let your hair grow but you are gonna have to keep up on getting it trimmed, otherwise you'll only get split ends. Just trim your own hair its not hard I do my hair all the time. I dont trust those damn salons. Under bright light grab different sections of your hair, and trim as you go. If your only taking a little bit off it wont make a difference in length.

Just let it grow or tell the stylist to cut about 1/2 shorter than what you want it cut. If you get your hair cut wet which is easier for the stylist then it ends up being shorter.

If you take good care of you hair you won't need to keep getting a trim so often. When you do go in for a trim, be firm with the stylist. Tell them exactly how much you want cut off.

You have to be more forceful and blunt with the stylist. Tell them exactly what you are doing and what you want to achieve. "I want a tiny, tiny trim. I don't want you to cut an inch off my hair. Yeah, let it go for a while. Be sure to invest in products that are good for your hair, so you can avoid split ends. Have it trimmed no more often than every 3 months, and tell them you want ABSOLUTELY NO MORE than 1/2 inch cut off. You should have another 4-6 inches within a year.

The reason they cut your hair an inch or so is because they have to get rid of your damaged hair and all the split ends. They have to get rid of these in order for you hair to be healthy and grow more. The longer you leave it to grow long the more of you length of hair will be split and damaged ends. This is also like cutting your nails half their length, this keeps them healthy and makes them grow more. But to find a valued haridresser, ask friends and other people you know. You wont get if you don't ask!

hey hun, i know the worry and i completly understand..If you want to grow it and and have it look good when you get it to the length you like you have to keep getting trims...depending on what you do to your hair (products, straightening, blowdrying..etc...) then i would suggest getting it trimmed every 6-8 week if you do a lot of styling to it and 8-10 weeks for minimal styling...I don't know where you live but i work for a company called Great Clips we are nation wide and we go thru a lot of training and i have full confidence in anyone working for the company...go to them tell them you want like a 1/4 inch taken off, have them show you exactly what they are taking off and make sure that you and your stylist understand how much is coming off...i hope this helps, if you have any other questions please ask

That happened to me a lot too, most of the time they would trim to the shortest hairs to make it even, what I finaly had to do was tell exactly what the deal was, I had to be very blunt about what I wanted done and not done. Because you still need your split ends cut off to get your hair to be healthy and grow better. Any way it worked for me.
