I took JROTC for two years in high school and never once was told that we (females) had to cut our hair. We were always told to either put it in a bun or braids.
I leave for bootcamp in November and I was curious. I've been reasearching around and I've seen answers that say yes and i see answers that say no. Can somebody please help me with this?

No, you do not have to cut your hair. In fact, I would suggest you keep it on the longer side, as it is much easier to keep it off your collar (per uniform regulations) when it is twisted into a bun.

No they do not, but you better not let one strand fall out of your hat... thats for sure!

As a military veteran...no, you don't have to cut your hair. As long as it is in a bun and does not touch you shoulders it's ok. A lot of women do do it, because it saves them time on messing with their long hair. For you, it would mean waking up a little bit earlier, that's all. Good luck!!!

Nope, you don't have to cut your hair. I don't know how you have to do your hair specifically in Naval Basic, but in Marine Corps boot camp you have to keep your hair above your collar at all times (every hair, no flyaways) and can't have any hair ties, pins, or anything like that showing. I can't imagine the Navy's standards are any harder than that! Good luck.

My wife is in her third week of boot camp in the navy and she has written home a couple of times.
Prior to leaving, in fact the day before i dropped her off, she had her hair cut very short. It was at least an inch above her collar, and she STILL had her hair butched when she got there. They cut it unless you are bald. Take it from someone who knows!

I was in the Army...no you don't have to cut your hair...just wear it in a bun and keep it looking professional.
Navy bootcamp however you DO have to have your hair cut short! I was in both branches.
Air Force...you DO NOT have to have your hair cut.
Marines...yes you have to have your hair cut short.

Your hair has to be collar length or shorter or it will be cut when you get there. They will not put up with buns in boot camp and unless you are black don't try the braids thing and even if you are you better ask your recruiter for the hair regulations because if they aren't in regs they will get cut too. And if your braids are hair extentions, they will grow out before your boot camp is up and again you will be forced to cut them out of your hair. Easiet thing to do is cut it short enough that even if it grows out during boot camp you won't need it to be cut. You aren't going to boot camp for your hair. You are going to learn how to be a Sailor. Good luck.

In the coast Guard I woman must have her hair shoulder length. and when her hair is in a bun it must not be over 3 inch of bulk . For guys its sideburns cant be past you ear lobe and the back must be tapered not rounded or boxed off the total must not be more than 2 inch of bulk , both boys and girls have to maintain a smart appearance.

i was told that either the navy or the marines have girls cut their hair if it is longer than a certain length but i'm not sure!
