my hair right now reaches my back, and i want to cut it up to my shoulders, just because I want to. but my hair stylist is against it. i remeber the last time i went to the hair salon, she told me i dont need a trim after i asked her to give me one. what do i do? she says she knows more about hair, but it doesnt sit right with me, when i dont get what i want, yet still have to pay for it. what do i do?

My sisters are both stylists, and it is completely unprofessional to deny a person their wishes. I have been talked out of drastic things such as a perm, but it was always backed with merit. A good stylist will prevent you from shaving your head, or dying your head purple just to get even with your parents. But a great stylist will provide their input but never deny you the right to your voice your personal ideals.

I used to say take off an inch, but when shown realize I actually needed 2 inches off. My sister always says before she cuts someone's hair, "what is an inch to you"? Many people have a skewed sense of proportion and measurement.

If downsizing your style is what you want, it is what YOU want. No matter their input the stylist should respect your decision. If they say they no more about your hair, great...but they don't know anything about you.

Find another stylist, tell them "I know this seems drastic, but it is what I really want". As long as you are knowing it is permanent, and willing to accept the outcome as what you wanted....then by all means find someone who will listen to you, and not what they would prefer.
