How do I cut choppy hair layers by myself?

Any ideas of how I can pursue this style? I have thinning sheers and regular hair cutting scissors, I just need to know how to do layers. Also, should I use any products to make it look messy/choppy like in the picture above.

I think you should go to a hair salon tommorrow and show them a picture and tell them you want them to cut your hair like that cause you can really mess up your hair.
